Dancing for Wellbeing™ specialises in Seniors Ballet and offers traditional ballet classes to help seniors improve their strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance.

The Ballet for Better Balance 55+™ seniors ballet class welcomes all seniors with no, or little prior ballet experience. With a focus on improving feet dexterity and proprioception, the classes are taught at a gentle pace to allow the dancers to feel comfortable and at ease with the movement. All exercises are choreographed to classical ballet music so dancers are able to get the true experience of a traditional ballet class. The class welcomes seniors of all abilities, and each ballet exercise can be modified to cater for individuals with pre-existing conditions such as hip and knee pain or previously injured ankles.

The benefits of ballet in older populations include, but are not limited to:

Mental
  • Learn combinations of ballet steps and ballet terminology as well as pattern recognition to challenge the brain.
  • Improve brain neuroplasticity through learning a different skill.
Physical
  • Develop and work intrinsic muscles of the feet which helps proprioception that other forms of exercise don’t normally provide.
  • Improve muscular strength, endurance and balance.
  • Improve posture.
Social
  • Meet other like minded individuals and enjoy the camaraderie and perhaps a coffee after class.
